This track has nothing to do with the City Tauranga as the name might suggest. You will find this beautiful Track in the Waioeka Gorge between Gisborne and Opotiki. The Track starts at the historic Tauranga bridge and follows the pictures Tauranga Stream. It is advisable to walk the track clockwise. In the beginning the track leads through grassland. Be careful, sometimes there are spiky plants hidden in the grass. Furthermore, you shouldn’t forget sun protection. On the top end there is a river crossing, but don’t be afraid the water is just knee-deep.
Track involves two river crossings
However, the way back leads through flat bush land. On the bottom end of the Tauranga bridge loop Track, you will find the second river crossing. The water there is slightly deeper, compared to the first river crossing though you will find a rope to cling on.
